Tomahawk brings Carleton Place Senior Hockey League Website to Life

(CARLETON PLACE) – Members of the Carleton Place Senior Hockey League (CPSHL) are on track with league happenings even when they are off the ice, thanks to the league’s new website developed by Tomahawk Technologies Inc.

The website – www.cpshl.ca - was first developed for the 2004-05 hockey season, based on some manual systems that had been previously created to assist with league coordination. From there, the website was developed to be a site where league members could go to see the game schedule. As the site continued to grow, it was updated and expanded to list all activities during a given game such as goals and penalties, thus resulting in the ability to track individual player statistics for each game.

Tomahawk Technologies CEO and President Robin Mulloy, a member of the league for hockey players over the age of 35, saw a need for the website based on discussions with league members who felt teams were regularly out of touch when compared to others in the league.

“As the site developed, several other components were added such as a photo album, user poll, player forum, automatic desktop schedule reminder as well as many other additional features,” Mulloy explains. “This year, the scrolling game news ticker was added. The whole site, other than the forum and press releases, is generated using Tomahawk’s own SteelArrow™ Web Application Server technology.”

The end product, according to Mulloy, not only serves the hockey league but also showcases Tomahawk Technologies; namely SteelArrow. SteelArrow is an easy to use Web Application Server which offers the latest in Internet connectivity and dynamic content development.  Through the use of this home grown technology Tomahawk Technologies is able to offer enterprise business solutions such as the CPSHL.ca web site.

“The site has become the main centre for communication amongst the league,” Mulloy notes, adding there are currently 75 players on five teams in the league. “All players are given a username and password, and they are encouraged to add their own resources to the site.”

Some of the items that are added regularly to the site include photos, messages to other players, jokes and in some cases even upcoming community notices. Most importantly, the website allows the CPSHL executive and players to track team standings and each team can record its own statistics, resulting in up to date information within a matter of days of game play.

“Any winter or summer hockey league could benefit from this technology as it is completely database driven, and the backend administration requires no programming or technical knowledge,” Mulloy concludes. “This site could be easily altered to support any league-type sport.”
