Tomahawk Technologies releases new version of SmartBrowser

(Carleton Place) - Finding specific information can be as easy as the touch of a screen thanks to a new product from Tomahawk Technologies Inc.

The advanced web solutions company has released the second version of its ‘SmartBrowser’, with new features and updates. While the browser allows the user access to information, certain controls are in place that allow the user to only surf whatever sites are made available.

"The product itself is like a browser but you install it on a machine at a kiosk and it is smart enough that people can’t close the browser or take control of the machine," explains Michael Freeman, Tomahawk’s VP of Business Operations. "It is either used with a touch screen so people can just surf, or they can use a mouse and a keyboard but the browser knows not to allow certain key functions."

The new version of SmartBrowser is currently being used by Global Exhibit Technologies at the Visitors Centre in Point Pelee (Ontario), and was used at the Sustainable Development Exhibit in South Africa two years ago. Freeman notes the browser was also used two years ago at the Corel Centre in Ottawa and is now being used in its new form this hockey season.

While this is the second version of the product, SmartBrowser was originally created by Tomahawk after a client, interested in making use of this specific technology, approached the company.

"Somebody came to us looking for this specific product after they were unable to find it elsewhere, so we built it. Later another group approached us, also unable to find a suitable product on the market.", Freeman explains. "Version two was created when a third group approached us and required even more specific functionality.  So we further enhanced it."

Freeman adds their SmartBrowser product is used within a controlled environment and in many cases, may not even be connected to the Internet. Instead, users are simply surfing information stored internally on an in-house server.
