| (Carleton Place) - After a couple of months of development and fine tuning, the Town of Carleton Place gives the okay for the public release of their newest web site; www.carletonplace.ca. The site developed by Carleton Place's own Tomahawk Technologies boasts new cutting edge technology that will certainly help to propel the town well into the new millennium. "One of the biggest challenges to overcome was to give the administrators the ability to edit site content, but without requiring any level of HTML knowledge. We achieved that and more." says Tomahawk president Robin Mulloy of the site challenges. The cutting edge site not only has administrator defined updatable content sections, but also content areas that can be updated by public site visitors. "The event calendar and business directory are populated and edited based on information supplied by any site visitor." said Michael Freeman, project manager for the site. "With several levels of controlled access, content can not be changed arbitrarily but the system does allow site visitors to offer relevant information to site admins", continued Michael. "The fact that [behind the scenes] the site ties together several community organizations is definitely the crown jewel of the whole development." said Robin of the content sharing that is managed behind the scenes. The BIA (gettoknowcarletonplace.com), the Chamber of Commerce (cpchamber.com), the Town site (carletonplace.ca), and a community portal (carletonplace.com) all share the same data sets for events and business information. "With this model, a visitor to any one of these sites can obtain the same list of businesses with the same contact details. Best part is the fact that site visitors and business owners themselves can logon at any time to provide updated content." added Robin. This site also proved to be a good place for Tomahawk to showcase several pieces of technology including their HawkVision site search engine, and their SteelArrow web application server software. Both technologies are currently in use on sites such as the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club (ottawasenators.com), and the national Commuter Challenge (commuterchallenge.ca) web site.
